Pre-Halloween Fun

This week was another week of keeping ourselves busy. We stopped by Home Depot to get a part for our potty and we had to stop and check out the Christmas decorations. Casen fell in love with a Mater blow up.

Rilyn spent most of her time making every toy that could sing, sing at the same time.

I'm sure the other people in the area loved that. I found the funniest thing I have ever seen. Its a blow up of Santa and one of his elves in a blind (for those of you who don't know that is the tree house thingy that hunters sit in when they are looking for game) and a reigndeer looking totally horrified down at the bottom.

I might have died laughing how red neck you had to be to put hat in your front yard. For playgroup this week we had a halloween party for the kids. Casen dressed up like Jake from Jake and the Neverland Pirates.

He got to play games,

make some fun pictures,

and frost sugar cookies.

He had a blast! On Friday night the kids and I went to Roba's Farm to have some fun before they close for the season. We fed all the animals,

jumped on the air pillow,

watched pig races,

rode on the cattle train,

went on a tractor ride,

and ate dinner out at the farm. We ended the night with some yummy donuts.

Poor Casen was so wiped out he crashed before we had been in the car for 5 minutes. To finish the week off in style we carved our pumpkins. We decided to make them match the kids costumes.

They refused to help me clean out the guts! While the pumpkins turned out cool I'm thinking that this will be the last time I carve pumpkins by the kids alone.

Keeping Busy

With Cody staying busy with interviews and his rotations at school the kids and I have been trying to keep busy. This week the kids and I made pumpkin cookes.

Rilyn worked very hard on her pumpkin faces.

It definately helped us get into the halloween spirit!

Next week will be the start of halloween parties and other halloween fun.

Lonely

This week was the start of interview season for the Breinholts. Just in case you were wondering what the heck interview season is, it is when medical students are invited to interview at residency programs to hopefully match into a program in March. Cody applied to anesthesiology programs and we have been very lucky to hear back from a few great programs. Cody kicked off the season with a bang and had 2 interviews this week. On Sunday he jumped in the car and drove almost 12 hours to Louisville, KY to interview at the University of Louisville. He was even lucky enough to get to stay with our friends the Serpa's from Erie. After his interview he started the long drive home but decided to detour into Erie and come home after sleeping a few more hours (thanks Rach and Dave for letting him crash last minute). The kids really missed him and after the first night started asking me every few hours where Daddy was and when he was coming home. Well, he got home Tuesday afternoon and thanks to some car trouble, dang it Marge!, he was able to stay home with us on Wednesday. Unfortunately for him that also meant trying to change my flat tire in the rain.

My poor tire was totally stuck so after working on it for an hour we finally called roadside assistance (thank goodness I paid the extra $20 a year for that on insurance) and they came out to help us. Luckily nothing was wrong with my tire it just popped the bead on the rim because the rim was bent (oops) so a quick stop at a tire shop took care of everything. What a way to spend a day at home right? Thank goodness everything happened when Cody was home! Anyways, Thursday rolled around and Cody had to leave the house at 3AM to catch his flight to Missouri (poor guy) for his next interview. He just got home this morning at 4AM so the kids and I were nice and let him sleep until late. I have a feeling that pretty soon all of this traveling is going to kick his booty! Next week he only has 1 interview and he can drive there in a few hours so that should be good. I'm sure not looking forward to November though. That month is going to be crazy!! We really miss him when he's gone (even if it is just for the night). We sure are proud of Cody though! Hes a hard worker and is going to be a great doctor. Way to go babe!

Family Time Farm Style

Casen and I had so much fun at the farm last week that this week we took Rilyn and Cody out there with us. Rilyn had a half day on Monday so it was the perfect time to go! We fed the animals,

watched the pig races (Rilyn, Cody, and Casen all had turns being cheerleaders),

played on the playground, milked a pretend cow,

did the corn maze,

rode on the tractor, and this time the kids got to jump on the big bouncy pillow with Dad.

They had so much fun. We were out there for a few hours. When it was time to go home we picked out our pumpkins, oh my what drama that turned out to be.

First we started with 2 orange ones. Then Casen decided that he wanted a white one not an orange one. Then Rilyn decided that if Casen was getting a white one she wanted a white one. Cody was trying to convince one of them to get an orange pumpkin because he felt like we needed an orange pumpkin but in the end he lost and we came home with 2 big white pumpkins. Like I said, DRAMA! Then to top of the night Casen got an apple cider donut and Rilyn got a cookie for the ride home.

The donut was AWESOME and Cody is hoping the next time I go to the farm we bring home a few extras for him. The rest of the week was pretty uneventful until Saturday. The kids and I went to Home Depot as usual with Carrie and her kids. It was fire safety day or something because there were 3 fire trucks for the kids to explore, an ambulance, and a police car.

Rilyn was the only one brave enough to get in the police car and turn on the siren. Casen hated the loud siren and wanted to be held the rest of the time we were there because of the sound. Plus they got to build their own fire trucks and Homer from Home Depot gave them candy. Then on the way home we stopped at Target and picked up some baby pumpkins so Cody could have his orange pumpkins and some window decorations. The kids were feeling kind of left out in the decoration department because my decorations are already packed and our next door neighbor is going to town on our house. It looks cute but the kids are sad that they aren't getting to do anything to decorate. Solution, window clings from the dollar bin.

They hung up their window clings and colored the baby pumpkins when we got home. Now they're feeling ready for Halloween.
