The Whole Story

Ok well I know I've been hinting to a big change coming up for the Breinholts and now I can tell you since Cody finally told his boss. We are moving to ERIE, PA!! Thats right. We're all going to freeze to death before Christmas so it was great knowing you all...ok just being a little dramatic but it is going to be way cold. Oh and the reason for the move...Cody got into MEDICAL SCHOOL!! Yeah!! Thats right in a few short (being optimistic here) years he'll be Dr. Breinholt!! How cool is that?? Well its been a long journey to get here. Cody started the whole application process last summer when he took the MCAT (the really hard test you have to take to get in, its like the SATs on crack!). Anyways, he worked so hard and studied nonstop for months and then took the test and did pretty good. Well after he got his results back he started applying to schools and we decided that DO schools were going to be the way to go (thats dr of osteopathic medicine for those who don't know what DO stands for). Well he ended up with 5 interviews all over the place. Then the acceptance letters started rolling in, well sort of. In March he was accepted to the West Virginia School of Medicine. We were way excited but Cody was worried because that also happened to be the most expensive of all of the schools and it was in a tiny podunk little town. Well as luck may have it, Cody was accepted to Rocky Vista School of Medicine in Parker, CO the day his deposit for West Virginia was due so we were able to pass on West Virginia. Well, Cody was excited for Rocky Vista because it was a new school and a great opportunity but also concerned because it was a brand new school so it wasn't proven or accredited yet (which means no government student loans). Again, as the stoke of luck would have it, Cody got into the Lake Erie College of Medicine (or LECOM) the day our huge deposit was due at Rocky Vista (is this guy lucky or what!?!). Cody was so excited because LECOM was his first choice because its a great program and it costs about half of what the other schools cost and we qualify for government student loans with the good interest rate because its accredited. I was very excited for him for getting into the school of his choice but also very nervous because Erie is REALLY REALLY far away from home!! But of course since I'm married to lucky Cody we were able to find the perfect house to rent just a mile and a half from campus that hopefully works out for us (keep in mind I've never seen the house in person, everything has been done online - SCARY). Things just keep falling into place for us. We were also able to sell our truck, even though everyone was convinced it would never go, and we had a very successful garage sale this weekend. Now we just need that dang quad to sale and we're set! Also, to be able to fit all of our stuff into a moving pod (it was cheaper than a truck) we are leaving our nice couch behind for my brother but my parents flying up with me (Cody and his Dad are driving our car up before I leave) and my mom is going to take me shopping for a new bed and for a new couch. Man, it almost seems like this move was meant to be!! While I may be worried about moving so far away from family and the familiar and moving into the arctic (ok maybe not really but its close enough for me) but I've decided that the best way to face this is being positive! I'm excited to have the Med School experience, from what I hear its where you make life long friends and have experiences that strengthen your marriage and family. I'm excited to move into my new house and learn a new way to live (I'm going to have to learn how to dress when its cold). I'm excited to go exploring over there -Niagara Falls, New York, Palmyra and other church history sites, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, all of the historic US sites, maybe we'll even make it to DC. We've already decided that we are going to try to go to Niagara Falls for the Thanksgiving break since Cody's not out of school long enough to go home. Well now you're all up to speed. I know this was a long post and there aren't any cute pictures but I had to fill you all in on the exciting news!! Wish us luck!
